Walking between the grand archways of Palais Royal, I've often imagined a life that would never leave the fabled corridors where Rick Owens, Guy Martin and I would cohabite. It was only a matter of time until a luxury hotel picked-up on that desire. Grand Hotel du Palais Royal finds its home within the truly grand confines of an 18th Century building block done to the nines by designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. A hotel property for those that truly know Paris, a demure entrance leads to parlor-style lobby and the grandest of spiral staircases. Its leather-sewn base looks like an old fashioned steamer trunk. Small lounge vignettes, including a smart lounge bar, are trimmed in chocolate walls with muted, luxurious décor and accents like marble busts and black-and-white photography. In-house Lilli Restaurant is built to resemble a winter garden with its posh situation facing the Palais gardens. Additional guest perks include a well-equipped fitness center and Clarita Spa with Turkish bath.
The Room
In a period pre-1800 landmark building, a total of 68 rooms and suites are found along white hallways trimmed in floral wall furnishings. Designer Pierre-Yves Rochon utilizes elements of light-colored oak on floors that juxtaposes crisp white walls and, chocolate brown, lime green or powdery pink upholstery. Textures of leather, velvet and silk add a dimension of luxury as well as curated bric-a-brac. Top-floor suites come with period architectural details with the occasional two-floor layout and terraces with rooftop views.
